Today I’m going to be discussing about the book community. I decided to talk about this topic because I feel like to some people, it feels like people who love to read are a joke/unimportant. Has it ever happened to you that some people say that “the bookish community” is just something irrelevant? Sometimes, it feels that way.
Is the bookish community important?
Being an avid reader, of course I’m going to say yes. It is 100% important to me because not only books, but also my book friends has been with me since the beginning of my blog journey. Honestly, I would not know what would I do without them. I would just feel so empty and would not even know what I want to do with myself in the future if it weren’t for them. I’m not saying that I know exactly what I want to do in the future but because of books and the people that support me, I have a direction in which to go. And for that, I am forever thankful, which is why sometimes it frustrates me how some people think that books are not important.
Some people think that because a book is YA and not non-fiction, it is less important, which is not true at all. Books in general are important because even the YA book is going to teach you something at the end. There’s always going to be a message at the end of a book and calling it “not important” makes you look like a fool. Okay, I’m kind of off-course of the topic here so this is a post for another time.
Now back to the question! When I’m talking about the bookish community, I’m talking about book blogs and booktube. They are the widest source of our community and I often find people thinking that the videos or that the posts are irrelevant to life in general or that it is a joke. Here to the people who think that:
It might not be relevant or important to you because you have no interest whatsoever in books, but trashing or thinking that it is irrelevant to everyone is really offensive. It isn’t important to you, but for others, it is something that they can count on and even something they can call a second family. And yes, watching those videos or reading those posts are probably not going to tell you how you’re going to be able to change a tire or something like that, but it is here for entertainment! That’s right, it’s entertaining to book lovers because we can relate, fangirl and talk about the best parts of a book that we loved.
And that’s my discussion post! I’m sorry if this post was just all over the place, but it has been such a long time that I didn’t write a discussion post. I hope I get better at it!
Great post, thanks for wording what a lot of us are thinking! I’ve been reading as long as I can remember, always looking for an escape from reality into a book where the characters became my friends and family. Without the bookish community, I wouldn’t be able to have half the conversations about books that I do. I wouldn’t know what I wanted to read next, and there’d be no one to make suggestions to help me discover an entirely new author or genre. Those of us in the community have to stick together, no matter what other people say or think – our community is important xx

This is so true! I definitely agree. Having the book community makes book reading 10x better. Without everyone here I wouldn’t have the motivation or support to read books that I love. Everyone here is so so nice that I honestly can’t even describe how amazing it is to share my reviews and recommendations with everyone!

Of course the bookish community is important! Not only does it give me people to relate to, I have somewhere to talk about books as much as I like without boring the people around me. It’s also where I get most of my recommendations. Also – everyone is SO lovely in the bookish community, so it can just be nice to have so many people to chat to when you want!
